Senators Say Pending Legislation Contains Funding That Will Support Water Infrastructure Improvements & Semiconductor Research At University At Albany
Schumer, Gillibrand: Fed $$ Secured For Communities Across The Capital Region!
Today, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that they secured $4,521,000 in federal funding for critical Capital Region projects in the pending fiscal year (FY) 2026 spending bill currently being voted on in the House of Representatives and expected to come to a vote in the Senate later this month. The senators personally secured funding for these projects as congressionally directed spending.
"These projects will boost communities throughout the Capital Region, from supporting cutting-edge semiconductor research and workforce development at two of our world class universities to making critical improvements in water and sewer systems," said Senator Schumer. "I am proud to have secured over $4.5 million in federal investment that will help lay the foundation for a more resilient future in the Capital Region."

The federal funding comes from the FY 2026 spending bill that is expected to pass in the House of Representatives later today and sent over to the Senate and includes the Commerce, Justice, and Science spending bill, the Energy and Water Development spending bill, and the Interior spending bill.
A full list of funded projects is below:
$1,521,000 for University at Albany for CNSE 200mm Wafer Cleanroom Equipment Upgrade
The project will upgrade equipment for the College of Nanotechnology, Science and Engineering to reestablish the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE)'s cleanrooms as state-of-the-art, industry compliant, desirable by NY companies, strengthen education programs, workforce development and community outreach expansion. The lab could achieve optimal performance with upgrades.
$1,000,000 for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for Biomanufacturing Equipment to Advance Innovation & Workforce Development in New York State
The project will establish an inter-institutional facility within RPI's Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies, enabling research, development, workforce training, & STEM education in biomanufacturing, bolstering our region & state economically.
$1,000,000 for Town of Richmondville for Richmondville Sewer District #1
The project will lower the amount of debt service that the residents and businesses of the hamlet of Warnerville and those residents and businesses west of Warnerville to the Village of Richmondville would have to shoulder.
$1,000,000 for City of Glens Falls for City of Glens Falls - Wastewater Treatment Plant Electrical System Upgrades
This project will upgrade failing, antiquated, and obsolete electrical systems, provide a new source of emergency backup power, improve reliability and energy efficiency at the City's wastewater treatment plant, a regional facility providing resource recovery for 22,000 people and businesses.
