ATLANTA - State Representative Mekyah McQueen (D-Smyrna) was sworn into office as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives on Monday, January 13, 2025, marking her first day of the 2025-2026 legislative term.
"This is a new chapter for our community, and I'm excited to be a part of the change we're creating together," said Rep. McQueen. "By shaping the laws that govern us, championing the arts and ensuring our voices are heard, I'm committed to making sure every Georgian has the opportunity to thrive."
In addition to being officially sworn in, the Georgia House of Representatives' Committee on Assignments named Rep. McQueen to the Code Revision, Creative Arts and Entertainment and Special Rules committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Mekyah McQueen represents the citizens of District 61, which includes portions of Cobb and Fulton counties. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Code Revision, Creative Arts and Entertainment and Special Rules committees.
