The 2026 NIHCM Journalism and Policy Research Awards: Honoring Excellence in Health Care Journalism and Research

Applications are now open for the 2026 NIHCM Awards in Health Care Journalism and Policy Research, which recognize outstanding work that advances understanding of critical issues in health and health care. These awards honor journalists and researchers whose reporting and scholarship illuminate topics such as health system financing, patient care challenges, mental health access, the role of public health infrastructure, and the effects of social and economic factors on health outcomes. Applications for the 2026 cycle are due January 30, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.
The 2026 award categories are:
- Investigative and General Reporting
- Local Media
- Trade Journalism
- Television and Audio Journalism
- Policy Research, formerly the Research Award
