In her message, Governor Ivey reflects on the courage of those who gave their lives defending the nation and encourages Alabamians to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day as families gather across the state. She also urged Alabamians to carry forward the values for which America's servicemen and women gave their lives.

Script:

Memorial Day is sacred ground.

Across Alabama, American flags wave because brave men and women once stood in harm's way for every freedom we hold dear.

Our fallen heroes left behind families, futures and unfinished stories…all so the rest of us could live free and proudly call ourselves Americans.

As we gather this Memorial Day, let us do more than remember their sacrifice.

Let us live worthy of it.

May we love this country boldly, defend freedom fiercely and never forget the price paid for the red, white and blue.

God bless our fallen heroes, their families, the great state of Alabama and these United States of America.
