Hina - Sisak marked City Day and the feast of its patron saint, St Quirinus, on Wednesday with a special City Council session attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who announced continued infrastructure investments in Sisak and Sisak County, and cooperation with the newly elected city administration.

"We face shared challenges, which we will address through cooperation between the government and the city of Sisak," PM Plenković and newly elected Sisak Mayor Domagoj Orlić (HDZ) said in a joint message marking City Day.

Accompanying PM Plenković was Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Branko Bačić. Their visit to Sisak included attendance at a formal handover of 38 apartments to local residents whose homes are awaiting reconstruction.

Bačić said this was part of efforts to revitalise Sisak and Sisak-Moslavina County, with the flats providing affordable housing once post-earthquake reconstruction was complete.

He also recalled a government decision now in force, allowing a refund of property transfer tax for those under 45 buying or building their first home.

"This is a concrete measure that helps young people acquire their first property, particularly in areas like Sisak, where the housing situation remains significantly affected by the aftermath of the earthquake," Bačić added.

Prime Minister Plenković congratulated the people of Sisak, as well as the newly elected mayor and councillors.

"The government will continue to support Sisak and its development, especially after all this city has endured, from the Homeland War to the devastating 2020 earthquake," he said.

The government has so far invested €1.6 billion in Sisak-Moslavina County through reconstruction and development, including a dedicated €22 million allocation for Sisak from EU funds, Plenković noted.

"The government will support all new city projects aimed at strengthening the economy, creating jobs and improving the quality of life," he said.
