Amendments to hedge disclosure obligations take effect on 1 August 2026

Amendments to the hedge disclosure obligations in subpart 5 of Part 13 of the Electricity Industry Participation Code (Code) take effect on 1 August 2026.

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko announced these changes in April in its Code amendment omnibus #6 - Decision paper. The amendments resolve operational issues identified following the 2024 updates to the hedge disclosure obligations and will improve the clarity and usability of the Code.

The amendments include:

  • improving identification of power purchase agreements and firming arrangements
  • introducing clearer timeframes and processes for novel contracts
  • requiring participants to provide consistent information on demand response arrangements
  • making technical and non-controversial amendments.

The hedge disclosure system has been updated, and participants were able to test the changes in advance to prepare their systems and processes.

Participants should ensure their systems and processes are ready to comply with the Code from 1 August 2026.
