Washington, DC - Today Kearra Grisby, the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District was welcomed to the Capitol by Congressman Fields. Kearra, who recently graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge, was accompanied by her mother Latreace Grisby and her grandmother Sandra Moore.
The Congressional Art Competition is a visual art contest sponsored by the Congressional Institute for high school students in each congressional district across the nation. Kearra's winning photography piece entitled "Crown" will be on display in the tunnels of the United States Capitol alongside over 400 other examples of exemplary artwork from students across the country.
When asked about the experience Kearra said "It feels very powerful and definitely very impactful to me. I'm very excited to be here and I'm just soaking it all in."
"The arts are so important to our kids and schools," said Rep. Fields. "We need to be creating more avenues and opportunities for our young people to express themselves and display their talents. I'm so proud of Kearra and all of the young people from my district who submitted their artwork."
Following her high school graduation, Kearra will be attending the University of Maryland in the fall.
