To ensure the highest level of data protection, we have implemented two-factor authentication (2FA) for all user accounts in our customer portal, Portland Revenue Online (PRO). Additionally, we have streamlined the process for requesting and managing third-party access, making it safer and faster to collaborate with your tax professional. Log in today at Pro.Portland.gov to update your security settings and authorize your tax preparer.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) helps protect your tax information and reduces the risk of identity theft by adding an extra layer of security when you log in. Instead of using only a password, 2FA asks you to confirm your identity with a second step, like a security code sent to your email address or cell phone.

The following authentication methods are currently available:

  • Passkey: It allows you to sign in to PRO using your device's built-in security. Instead of typing a password, you unlock your tax portal using your phone or computer's fingerprint scanner, facial recognition (like Face ID), or device PIN.
  • Authentication App: This method allows you to generate a security code on your device through an app such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.
  • Email: Receive a security code by email.
  • Password: Use a secret word, phrase, or string of characters only you know to authenticate your identity.
  • Recovery Codes: A recovery code can be used as the second method in 2FA if you aren't able to use one of your normal methods, like if you forget your password or lose your phone.

Note: Receiving a security code by text message to your cell phone will be available soon.

Manage Third-Party Access

We improved the process for you to securely grant account access to your professional accountant or tax preparer. They have their own separate PRO login to manage your tax accounts without you ever having to share your personal password.

  • Never share passwords: Sharing your personal password compromises your security. PRO gives your tax preparer their own unique keys to the door.
  • You stay in control: You choose exactly what information your accountant can see, and you can revoke their access instantly at any time.
  • Audit trail: The portal tracks actions separately, so you always know whether an update was made by you or your tax professional.

You initiate third-party access by logging in to your PRO account and sending an access invitation to your tax preparer. They receive an email with a link to accept the access invitation (they will be required to first log in to their PRO account, or set one up if they are not registered).
