Privacy Commissioner's Office Proactively Commences Compliance Check on 24/7 FITNESS to Ensure the Protection of Members' Personal Data Privacy

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) noted that hidden pinhole cameras were recently discovered in the changing rooms of the 24-hour fitness centre chain 24/7 FITNESS, and the matter raised concerns among members about their privacy.

To ensure that the personal data privacy of 24/7 FITNESS members is adequately protected, the PCPD has proactively commenced a compliance check on 24/7 FITNESS and required the company to provide further information regarding the security measures that it had implemented following the incident to safeguard members' personal data privacy. The PCPD would also look into whether such measures are sufficient to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.

Any individuals who suspect that their personal data privacy has been infringed may enquire with the organisation concerned. They may also make enquiries (telephone: 2827 2827 or email: [email protected]) or complaints (telephone: 2827 2827 or email: [email protected]) with the PCPD.
