Rep. Shaw Blackmon Reappointed Chairman of House Ways and Means Committee

ATLANTA - The Georgia House of Representatives' Committee on Assignments reappointed State Representative Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) as the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

"I am grateful to the Speaker for the opportunity to continue serving in this capacity, and I am honored to work with him and fellow members to advance policies that help Georgians and keep Georgia moving forward," said Rep. Blackmon.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

The House Ways and Means Committee is the chief tax-writing committee in the Georgia House of Representatives. The committee derives a large share of its jurisdiction from the state Constitution which declares, "All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives."

Representative Shaw Blackmon represents the citizens of District 146, which includes a portion of Houston County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2015 and currently serves as Chairman of the Ways & Means Committee. He also serves on the Governmental Affairs, Insurance, Rules, Rural Development, Small Business Development and Technology and Infrastructure Innovation committees, as well as the Special Committee on Resource Management. He is also an Ex-Officio member of the Appropriations Committee and MARTOC.
