The Deputy Minister of National Defence Thanasis Davakis, today 9 June 2026 attended the Event organised by the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, whose theme was: "Supply of Emergency Communication Stations and Provision of Climatic Data for Areas of Interest (RADAR)". The Deputy Minister was greeted by the Commander of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, Colonel (Met) Ilias Patsiouras, while the Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evangelos Tournas also attended.
At the Event, the progress of carrying out the project of the supply of 7 emergency communication stations and the provision of climatic data for areas of interest, as well as its contribution to the upgrade of the HNMS capabilities was presented, insofar as the provision of forecasting data is concerned.
In his brief address, Mr. Davakis stated the following:
"I feel particular joy in attending this event, which concerns communication stations which will provide meteorological data and cover the whole country.
This development is of historical importance for the forecast of hazardous weather events, since it also upgrades and safeguards our country against unprecedented and unpredictable weather conditions.
Yet, reinforcing the staff of the HNMS, and of all those services, which are connected to production, surveillance, execution, and operating the systems which are being presented today, continues to be a challenge for us all, beyond this upgrade".
