Gov. Rhoden Signs Infrastructure Bills into Law

PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed several bills to strengthen South Dakota's infrastructure. This includes SB 75, a request of the Governor's Resilience and Infrastructure Task Force (GRIT), which allows rural water and sanitary sewer districts to participate in the state's cybersecurity services initiative.

"Strong, resilient infrastructure is a key part of national security, our state's next big industry," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "By taking action today, we are safeguarding our communities and ensuring South Dakota's future remains strong, safe, and resilient for generations to come."

Governor Rhoden also signed the following five infrastructure bills:

• SB 26revises procurement for highway construction contracts;
• SB 27revises the description of certain highways included in the state trunk highway system;
• SB 71authorizes the assumption of certain responsibilities and the waiver of sovereign immunity in connection with certain actions under federal environmental law;
• SB 129updates references in certain statutes to the 2024 standard building codes; and
• HB 1189establishes a greater tire weight limit for a mobile crane moving on any highway in this state.

Governor Rhoden has signed 80 bills into law and vetoed one this legislative session.
