Amata Welcomes Over $250,000 CDC Grant for Epidemiology

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata is welcoming notice from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of a $250,586 award to the American Samoa Department of Health (ASDOH) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The discretionary federal funding is provided through the CDC's National Center for Zoonotic, Vector-Borne, and Enteric Diseases. In American Samoa, this health services grant supports capacity building for Epidemiology, Lab and Surveillance of Infectious Diseases for prevention and control.

"We've welcomed an encouraging series of grant notices in recent weeks, each one focused on another important and specific need or service. I can't thank our dedicated team enough for the local efforts to fulfill federal requirements to receive everything we are due under the laws," said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. "Thank you to Epidemiologist Adam Konrote and as always every single medical professional involved in keeping our people safe."

This funding is for the next year of an ongoing five-year project through 2029. ASDOH is led by Health Director Dr. Saipale Fuimaono, and HHS by Secretary Robert Kennedy, Jr., while CDC is led by Director Dr. Erica Schwartz, Rear Admiral, USN, (Ret).
