Washington, D.C. - Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today joined 210 Democrats and two Republicans in voting for the bipartisan War Powers Resolution. It narrowly failed to pass the U.S. House of Representatives.
"I served in the U.S. Army for 25 years, including in Iraq. I know the cost of war. We've already lost six Americans. As an Iraq War veteran, I know the weight of losing even one service member - and the devastating toll it takes on the families who receive that knock at the door.
"President Trump has not made his case to Congress or to the American people for dragging this country into a war with Iran.
"Working Americans are already paying the price. Gas prices are climbing, and another conflict in the Middle East will only drive costs higher for working families.
"We cannot keep writing blank checks for open-ended wars overseas while families here at home are struggling to afford groceries, prescription drugs, and gas at the pump.
"Congress has a constitutional duty to step in and check this president's war of choice. Our job is to protect American lives, defend the Constitution, and keep our service members out of forever wars."
