Lt. Gov. Cournoyer joins multi-state effort to champion Iowa agriculture and national food security

Lieutenant Governor Chris Cournoyer, alongside a bipartisan coalition of lieutenant governors from across the country, announced the passage of a national resolution recognizing the critical impact of American agriculture on the global economy and food security.

The resolution, passed during a recent meeting of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA), was co-sponsored by Lt. Gov. Cournoyer (IA), Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, and South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, and led by Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman.

"In Iowa, agriculture isn't just an industry-it is our heritage and the heartbeat of our economy," Lt. Gov. Cournoyer said. "From our family farms in Calhoun County to our global leaders in biotechnology, Iowans feed and fuel the world. This resolution sends a clear message that we stand firmly with our farmers as they navigate today's unique challenges, ensuring that Iowa remains at the forefront of global innovation."

The resolution highlights the immense scale of the U.S. food and agriculture sector, which supports nearly 49 million jobs and generates over $10.4 trillion in annual economic activity.

The National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA), established in 1962, serves as the professional organization for the officials first in line of succession to the governors in all 50 states and U.S. territories. The association fosters interstate cooperation and provides a platform for leaders like Lt. Gov. Cournoyer to advocate for policies that improve the efficiency of state administration and the quality of life for their constituents.
