European Statistics Awards – Trade Challenge winners

Eurostat is proud to announce the winners of the International Trade Nowcasting Challenge, part of the European Statistics Awards Programme, which focused on international trade in goods.

The nowcasting challenge aimed to nowcast key statistics with exceptional timeliness. The goal is to enable faster monitoring of international trade trends, support the evaluation of trade policies, and analyse the economic impacts of global trade.

The nowcasting challenge focused on intra and extra-EU exports and extra-EU imports.

A total of 35 teams, with 66 participants from 17 countries, participated in the challenge.

Winners were selected in 3 award categories:

  • Accuracy Award- the top 3 teams whose estimates were closest to the published indicators.
  • Reusability Award- the team with the most thoroughly documented, scalable, and open solution.
  • Innovativity Award- the team demonstrating the most innovative approach.

We are happy to announce that team TURKSTAT-DATGemerged as the overall winner of the competition, securing first place in nearly all categories (accuracy, reusability and innovativity for extra-EU exports and extra-EU imports and reusability and innovativity for the intra-EU exports). The accuracy award for the intra-EU exports challenge went to team YXAnalysis.

Congratulations to all the winners!

The winning solutions for all categories are available on the competition website.
