UToledo Celebrates Completion of New Saloff Welcome Center

The University of Toledo officially opened its new "front door" on Sept. 18 at a public ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Dorothy and Georgianna Saloff Welcome Center. Bookended by Rocky and Rocksy, left to right below are: Richard Day, senior associate vice president of development at the UToledo Foundation; Jaden Bollinger, student government president; UToledo President James Holloway; Dan Saevig, Saloff family representative; and Jason Toth, senior associate vice president for campus planning & facilities.

Marrying new construction at the corner of Campus Road and West Rocket Drive with renovations to MacKinnon, Scott and Tucker halls, the complex welcomes current and prospective Rockets to Main Campus and serves as a new hub for student support services.

President James Holloway, right, and Dan Saevig, a longtime family friend of the Saloffs, left, unveil the sign honoring the legacy of the late Dorothy and Georgianna Saloff, a pair of sisters who each began a more than four-decade career as a local elementary school teacher with a bachelor's degree from UToledo in 1951 and 1962, respectively. Their bequest, built on decades of philanthropy supporting their alma mater, was one of the largest individual gifts in UToledo history.

The Saloff Welcome Center will serve as the first point of contact for prospective Rockets and their families beginning their higher education journey, and also as a central location for student support services including financial aid, the registrar's office and military services.
