Notable Trends

  • One arson reported that is still an open investigation.
  • Six auto thefts reported this week with one case still an open investigation and two arrests. In one arrest, the suspect borrowed the vehicle from the victim and refused to return it. The vehicle was recovered and suspect arrested by Bothel PD. In the other arrest, the suspect stole the car keys while staying in the same apartment as the victim. The car was recovered and suspect arrested by Aberdeen PD.
  • One of the auto thefts also involved a commercial burglary where the suspect broke a window to a mechanic's business, stole a set of keys from inside and then stole the vehicle from the lot.
  • In another commercial burglary, the suspect rammed their moped into two grocery stores' doors after they were closed for the night and refused to let her in to buy vodka. At the second business, she pried the door open with her hands and drove the moped into the store. She threw wine bottles at employees and officers before she was arrested. She was charged with two counts of malicious mischief, commercial burglary, two assaults, including one on an officer, and DUI.
  • There were two cases where thousands of dollars in tools were stolen out of vehicles. Three more license plates were reported stolen. A suspect was arrested in one case after an officer located a vehicle with the stolen plates later in the week. Charges were referred to the prosecutor in one case where the suspect used counterfeit money to purchase a flashlight. He returned to the business and gave them back their merchandise but refused to give them the change he received.

Other Items

  • Officers responded to 1,082 calls for service this week.
  • In this week's photo, we hosted our annual Youth Academy. Fifteen middle schoolers joined us for the week to learn more about law enforcement and the different parts of the job. Thank you to all the officers and partner agencies that helped throughout the week. We host the Youth Academy as a summer camp once a year and interested parties can register through the Olympia Parks, Arts, and Recreation summer camp system.
