PORT OF LOS ANGELES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR GENE SEROKA RECEIVES DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD FROM LSU NEW ORLEANS COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
Nov. 6, 2026 - Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka received the Henry Bernstein College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award Thursday from LSU New Orleans.
The award was presented at the university's annual Homer L. Hitt Distinguished Alumni Gala, which recognizes graduates for outstanding achievements, leadership and service to their professions, communities and the university.
"Gene Seroka represents the very best of LSU New Orleans," said Jeanette Weiland, Chancellor of LSU New Orleans. "His leadership at the nation's busiest container port has had an extraordinary impact on international trade and the American economy. Gene has never forgotten his roots or the university that helped prepare him for success. We are proud to recognize him with this well-deserved honor."
"To be recognized by my alma mater is incredibly meaningful to me," Seroka said. "This university gave me an opportunity that changed the trajectory of my life. I will be forever grateful to LSU New Orleans for providing me the foundation, confidence and knowledge that helped shape my career and future as a business leader."
Founded in 1958 as Louisiana State University in New Orleans, the institution later became the University of New Orleans before officially changing its name to LSU New Orleans earlier this year. The award is named after Hitt, the founding chancellor of LSU New Orleans.
Louisiana native Seroka earned both a Bachelor of Science in marketing and MBA from the university, where he also serves on its Alumni Board of Directors. As head of the busiest container port in North America, Seroka oversees major initiatives involving infrastructure, new cargo technology integration, workforce development and zero-emission operations. The Port has experienced a series of record-breaking performances since his appointment in 2014.
