Back by popular demand, Cumberland City Council's Diwali Street Festival will return to Station Street, Wentworthville for two vibrant days of culture, entertainment and community celebration.
The Festival of Lights will take place on Saturday 31 October from 5pm to 9pm and Sunday 1 November from 1pm to 8pm, bringing together residents and visitors to celebrate one of the most significant festivals observed by many communities including Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists.
Diwali symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. Translating to "row of lights" in Sanskrit, Diwali marks the start of the Hindu New Year and is widely celebrated by people from the Indian subcontinent, who make up a significant part of Cumberland's diverse community.
Cumberland Mayor Joseph Rahme said the festival was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Cumberland such a vibrant and welcoming place.
"Diwali is a celebration of light, hope and togetherness, and these are values that bring our community together," Mayor Rahme said.
"Cumberland is one of the most culturally diverse communities in NSW, and events like our Diwali Street Festival provide an opportunity to learn about, experience and celebrate that diversity.
"I encourage everyone to come along with family and friends and enjoy two fantastic days of culture, entertainment, food and community spirit in the heart of Wentworthville."
Festival goers can enjoy a packed program of entertainment, including traditional and contemporary cultural performances, live music, dance, fusion acts and community showcases on the main stage.
A traditional lamp lighting ceremony will symbolise the triumph of light over darkness, while Station Street will come alive with food stalls showcasing diverse flavours, a vibrant street bazaar, retail vendors, cultural activities and family-friendly entertainment.
Popular attractions including the colourful Bollywood Car Photobooth and the energetic Bollywood Block Party in Friend Park will return, creating plenty of opportunities to celebrate and immerse yourself in Bollywood culture. MEDIA RELEASE October 2026 Cumberland City Council has proudly celebrated Diwali since 2017, with the event continuing to grow each year as a highlight on the City's cultural calendar.
