Venezuela – Chargé d’affaires summoned (16 January 2025)

Venezuela's chargée d'affaires in France was summoned to the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs today, Wednesday 15 January.

The summons follows the Venezuelan regime's decision to reduce the diplomatic capabilities of the French Embassy in Venezuela. France categorically rejects the allegations of interference made against it. France is committed to maintaining dialogue with all the parties to facilitate a peaceful solution to the crisis.

The work of our diplomats - to whose daily commitment to significant bilateral cooperation projects, for example in the security, cultural and humanitarian fields, France pays tribute - comes fully under the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations.

In a national capacity, France will take every reciprocity measure it deems necessary. France remains in close coordination with its European partners also targeted by this decision.
