Shepherd University School of Nursing hosts Research Day

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd University's School of Nursing brought faculty, administrators, and medical professionals together to highlight the work being done by students.

The School of Nursing Research Day is the culmination of the undergraduate BSN student's work, according to the director of the School of Nursing, Dr. Mary Hancock, PhD, RNC-OB.

"Students develop this project during NURS 447: Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice," Hancock said. "This Core Curriculum Writing Intensive course focuses on the research process, how to write an evidence-based research paper, the development of an evidence-based poster, and the presentation of findings."

Students presented their work in the lobby of Erma Ora Byrd Hall.

Hancock said the School of Nursing Research Day and NURS 447 provide Shepherd nursing students with a foundation for success upon graduation.

"As nurse leaders, BSN-prepared registered nurses actively participate in quality improvement projects in their chosen healthcare organization to improve patient outcomes. "

Hancock spoke during the event along with the dean of Shepherd University's College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Nursing, Dr. Bob Warburton.

Other speakers included Dr. Damien Unger, DNP, RB; Dr. Jennifer Barger, DNP, MSN; Dr. Barbara Spencer, DNP; and Dr. Brenda Johnson, DNP, PMHNP, PMHCNS.
