Murphys - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is planning construction operations to modify a safety project on State Route 4 (SR-4) at Tom Bell Road/Big Trees Road for early next week.
Beginning Monday, October 6, 2025, crews will enhance the recently installed concrete median, with left turn pockets into both Sierra Hills Market to the north of SR-4, and the Shell Gas Station to the south of SR-4.
These modifications follow feedback from the community, prompting an urgent response to address their primary concern; access to local businesses.
"We're committed to safety as a top priority here at Caltrans," said Grace Magsayo, Caltrans District 10 Director. "The department believes these changes will offer greater mobility and reduce the potential for collisions along this stretch of highway."
Motorists can expect nighttime closures, Sunday through Friday, from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Work is expected to last approximately 10 days.
This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials and construction related issues.
For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Be Work Zone Alert. Caltrans also reminds motorists to #KnowBeforeYouGo by checking quickmap.dot.ca.gov for the latest highway conditions prior to travel.
Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. All work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
