VTGOP Chair Says Vermont "Turns Back the Clock" With Another Democrat Supermajority

Montpelier, Vt. - VTGOP Chairman Paul Dame released the following statement following partial results of tonight's election.

"While many races are still undecided as we await vote totals, it seems clear that Vermont Republicans have suffered significant losses in both the House and Senate and Vermonters need to be prepared to turn back the clock to the 2023 Legislative session with a Democratic Supermajority.

Vermont Republicans appreciated the opportunity voters gave us the last two years to help support the Governor enact his affordability agenda and make meaningful tax cuts for seniors, veterans and young families, as well as curb the growth of statewide property taxes to stay under inflation during this past session.

Republicans ran a Vermont-focused campaign that promoted the results we were able to deliver last session, as well as what our intention was for the future. It's clear that those policy-centered issues were outweighed by the massive anti-Trump wave that swept the nation in these historic midterms.

Many Democrats campaigned on "affordability" and Republicans will continue to hold them accountable to those promises over the next two years.

I want to also thank so many amazing candidates who gave up their time and big parts of their life to run for office and give voters a choice. We also had incredible participation from our town & county committees and various volunteers who worked harder than I've ever seen. While we are all disappointed at the outcome, we have a lot of great people who did valuable and sacrificial work that I and many others are proud of."
