Arkansas Tourism highlights travel’s impact during National Travel and Tourism Week

National Travel and Tourism Week shines a spotlight on the U.S. travel industry's essential role in driving economic growth, creating jobs and enhancing the nation's global competitiveness.

In Arkansas, tourism is a $9.9 billion industry, with 50.7 million people visiting Arkansas in calendar year 2023.

"Arkansas is known as The Natural State for a reason - that's why Arkansans and visitors alike continue to travel our state for world-class outdoor recreation and cultural attractions, unique lodging, and elevated culinary experiences," said Shea Lewis, secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism.

According to recent data, visitor activity to Arkansas sustained 70,026 direct jobs in 2023, with an additional 30,365 jobs supported from the indirect and induced impacts of visitor activity. The total jobs' impact reached 100,392 in 2023, one of every 18 jobs in the state.

"Travel drives economic opportunity and strengthens our communities," said Lewis. "This National Travel and Tourism Week, we celebrate travel's undeniable impact on our local economy and quality of life."

Since 1983, National Travel and Tourism Week has underscored the travel industry's contribution to U.S. economic strength, community vitality and quality of life. Visit ustravel.org/NTTW to learn more.
