Trump Calls Elon Musk “One of the Greatest Technology Founders to Ever Live”

U.S. President Donald Trump has described Elon Musk as "one of the greatest technology founders to ever live," marking a notable shift in tone toward the trillionaire entrepreneur after months of public tensions between the two high-profile figures.

Speaking during the recently held White House Science & Tech Innovation Summit, where he awarded the nation's highest science and technology honors, Trump described Musk as an industrial titan, and one of the greatest technology founders to ever live.

"Quite honestly, there's no one like him. Few Americans in history have done more to advance America's national interest than Elon. In one field after another, his genius and determination have made science fiction into reality. And that is so true", Musk said.

He further described Musk as the modern-day Thomas Edison, due to his remarkable inventions. Trump highlighted Musk's founding of SpaceX in 2002, noting that the company developed the first privately built liquid-fueled rocket to reach orbit against long odds.

On SpaceX, the U.S President noted that the spaceship company saved NASA from relying on foreign nations to send United States astronauts into space and bring them back safely.

He specifically mentioned Starship, calling it the largest rocket in history and noting its innovative ability to be caught for rapid reuse, as well as Starlink, the world's largest communications satellite network.

Trump recalled Starlink's role in disaster relief, describing how the system helped save hundreds of lives during a major hurricane in North Carolina after he personally reached out for assistance.

Donald Trump's description of Elon Musk as a modern-day Thomas Edison reflects the breadth of innovation associated with the trillionaire entrepreneur, whose companies have challenged established industries and pushed emerging technologies into the mainstream.

Musk's influence extends across several major technology sectors. He created Tesla, the first successful new car manufacturer in over 75 years, producing the first commercially viable electric cars with the first consumer self-driving technology.

Through Tesla, he helped accelerate the global shift toward electric vehicles, transforming EVs from a niche technology into a mainstream alternative to conventional petrol-powered cars.

Tesla also expanded into battery storage and renewable energy solutions, seeking to reshape how electricity is generated, stored, and consumed.

In space technology, his company SpaceX has pursued reusable rockets, dramatically changing the economics of launching spacecraft.

Its Falcon rockets can return to Earth and land for reuse, while the company's Starlink satellite network is working to provide high-speed internet connectivity across parts of the world that traditional infrastructure struggles to reach.

Musk has also invested heavily in artificial intelligence through xAI, which developed the Grok family of AI models. His broader AI ambitions have positioned him as one of the major technology figures competing in the rapidly expanding generative AI industry.

His ambitions extend beyond Earth and artificial intelligence. Through Neuralink, Musk is pursuing brain-computer interface technology designed to enable direct communication between the human brain and computers.

The technology could eventually have applications in helping people with neurological conditions interact with digital devices.

Musk has also entered the transportation sector through The Boring Company, which focuses on underground transportation infrastructure and tunnel construction as a potential solution to urban congestion.

Beyond individual inventions, Musk's significance has largely come from his willingness to combine ambitious engineering with aggressive commercial execution.

His companies have targeted problems in transportation, energy, space, communications and computing, often pursuing technologies that were considered difficult, expensive or commercially impractical.

That combination of technological ambition and disruption is what makes the Edison comparison particularly notable.

Like Edison, Musk has built his reputation not around a single invention, but around developing, commercialising and scaling technologies that could alter entire industries.
