Temporary traffic impacts on Dawson Bridge begin June 1

The City of Edmonton continues to make progress on the Dawson Bridge Rehabilitation project. Timelines have shifted due to prolonged spring weather conditions and the complexity of completing the work safely while minimizing traffic impacts. Work is now expected to be complete this summer. This rehabilitation work will help extend the lifespan of the Dawson Bridge and ensure it remains safe and reliable for all users.
To accommodate upcoming construction activities, a temporary single-lane closure will be in place on Dawson Bridge starting June 1 for approximately two weeks. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled by temporary traffic signals on either side of the bridge. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction.
In addition, full closures are scheduled:

- Overnight from June 12 at 8 p.m. to June 13 at 7 a.m.
- Throughout the weekend from June 19 at 7 p.m. to June 22 at 5 a.m.
- Throughout the weekend from June 26 at 7 p.m. to June 29 at 5 a.m.
Delays are expected, particularly during peak travel times. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead using the Traffic Disruptions Map and consider alternate routes where possible.
Route 1A/B will be detoured when the bridge is fully closed. On Demand Transit will operate as usual during regular service hours.
A courtesy taxi service will be available outside On Demand Transit operating hours during bridge closures. The service will travel between the Riverdale On Demand Transit stops and the transit hubs at City Centre Mall and Churchill Square. More details are available at edmonton.ca/ServiceAlert.
