The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a €25 million loan to Türkiye 's BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama for gender-responsive on-lending to sub-borrowers that are making green economy investments in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy and climate resilience.
The loan is being issued under the EBRD's Türkiye Green Economy Financing Facility II, which aims to accelerate the deployment of green finance in the country.
Tackling climate change is a top priority for Türkiye, which is aiming to achieve net zero by 2053. Integrating leasing companies into green financing is crucial to these efforts, as they offer innovative financial solutions that help make renewable energy systems, energy-efficient technologies and low-carbon machinery more accessible and affordable for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The project also includes a gender-responsive component, with the company committing to enhance equal opportunities so that women can gain better access to climate finance for green technologies; they face disproportionately more barriers than men when trying to access green finance in Türkiye.
Oksana Yavorskaya, EBRD Türkiye Deputy Head, welcomed the transaction, saying: "We are delighted with the strong commitment demonstrated by Turkish leasing companies in exploring innovative ways to expand green financing opportunities for their clients. We are confident that our latest collaboration with BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama will build on this important tradition, providing vital support to businesses that depend on leasing as a critical tool for accessing financial solutions."
Sibel Alyar, General Manager of BNP Paribas Finansal Kiralama, emphasised the strategic importance of the partnership: "As part of BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions, which manages €15.5 billion in annual business across 17 countries, we're leveraging our position as a European leader in equipment finance to drive sustainable growth in Türkiye. In line with BNP Paribas Group's sustainability commitments, we will utilise this financing from the EBRD to strengthen our ability to deliver impactful green financing solutions."
The EBRD is one of Türkiye's key investors, with more than€21 billion committed through 465 projects and trade finance limits since 2009, most of it in the private sector.
