Scott Haselwood named Oklahoma Technology Leader of the Year

Dr. Scott Haselwood, an alumnus of the Department of Learning, Design and Technology was named Outstanding Technology Leader of the Year by the Oklahoma Society for Technology in Education.

Haselwood has been an educator for over 25 years and currently serves as chief information officer of the Deer Creek School District. With his combined passion for education and technology, his career has made an impact by pairing information technology with classroom instruction to promote growth among students and teachers.

"It fuels my soul to work with teachers who are exploring technology and wanting to do more with the tools we have available," Haselwood said. "I have absolutely loved seeing teachers grow with their use of technology in the classroom and providing support to teachers who are exploring different ways of thinking about technology in the classroom as part of teaching and learning."

His use of technology has empowered education in Oklahoma by encouraging teachers to use innovative technology and providing instructors with resources to help make their classrooms more creative and engaging. His podcast, "The Scott Haselwood Show," extends beyond education by providing technological tips to professionals of every field.

Haselwood was also named Edmond Memorial Teacher of the Year in 2009, where he served as a high school math teacher for nine years. He then earned his Ph.D. in educational teaching from Oklahoma State University and returned to the profession with a goal of helping people use technology as part of teaching and learning.

As a doctoral student, Haselwood taught the "Applications of Educational Technology" course to preservice teachers and managed the Emerging Technologies and Creativity Research Lab.

"He mentored master's and doctoral students in the program, collaborated on research with faculty, and was a key leader in the #OklaEd Twitter (X) community serving Oklahoma educators. He continues to teach adjunct courses for us," said Dr. Susan Stansberry, current professor and faculty fellow of Learning, Design and Technology at OSU.

Haselwood credits much of the success he's found in his career to the doctoral program he undertook at OSU.

"If you would have told first year teacher Scott Haselwood what he would be doing in the future, I would never have believed one word of it," Haselwood said.

"My entire experience at OSU helped me gain the confidence to make well-thought-out and informed decisions as we look at technology use in schools as part of the teaching and learning cycle."
