The City Council on Tuesday, April 22 will consider approving a project meant to decrease wildfire risks as well as recognize some outstanding Marines.
The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.
Council Members will consider plans and specifications for a Mission Viejo Fuel Reduction Project. The City, working closely with the Orange County Fire Authority, applied for and was awarded a $2 million Cal Fire "State Greenhouse Gas Reduction Funding" grant. The project's objective is to clear and maintain hazardous fuels to a safe height, remove dead or dying plant materials, and remove selected non-native trees in areas designated by the State as High and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
As part of the Mission Viejo Trash and Runoff Abatement Project, the Council will also consider awarding a contract for the installation of catch basin debris screens and automated retractable storm drain screens in the southwestern portion of the City.
Santa Margarita Water District representatives are expected to give a presentation about the status of the Oso Creek Water Reclamation Plant Improvement Project. City staff will follow up with an update on the LOS OSOS project.
During the presentation portion of the meeting, Council Members will recognize members of the City's adopted Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton for their outstanding efforts. Corporal Christon Miena will be recognized as "Marine of the Quarter" and Sergeant William Jones as "Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter."
City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
