With Terriers settling into their first whole week, there are plenty of ways to take a break from classes and get out around campus and the city this weekend. From live performances to free ice-skating to Terrier hockey to a campus food fest, here are a few picks to help you make the most of time away from coursework.

Skating at Lunch: Free Ice-Skating at Frog Pond

If you're looking for an outdoor activity, the Frog Pond at Boston Common is hosting a free lunchtime ice-skating session on Thursday. The drop-in skate is open to all experience levels, with free skate rentals available. You can stay for a quick spin or skate for the full two hours. And the Frog Pond Cafe will offer discounted lunch options during the event.

Lovestruck Books & Cafe One Year Anniversary Party

Celebrate the first anniversary of Harvard Square's Lovestruck Books & Cafe with a daytime lineup of book-themed activities. The event includes pop-up crafts, live poetry written on the spot, and anniversary-only merchandise, plus coffee samples throughout the afternoon. Entry is free, with select activities available on a first come, first served basis. There are also ticketed romance author events on select evenings.

Articles of Interest Live

Fans of podcasts and fashion can catch a live recording of Articles of Interest at WBUR CitySpace this Friday. Host Avery Trufelman will be joined by Jazmin Aguilera, host of the Boston Globe's podcast, and cartoonist Joel Christian Gill (CFA'04), a College of Fine Arts associate professor of art and chair of the visual narrative department, for a conversation about fashion through the lens of Archie Comics. The event includes additional audio and visual material, making it a fun pick even if you're not a regular listener.

Friday, January 30, 7 pm (doors open at 6 pm), WBUR CitySpace, 890 Commonwealth Ave. This event is $10 for students, $25 for general admission.

Boston University Men's Ice Hockey vs Boston College

One of BU's biggest rivalry games of the season hits Agganis Arena on Friday night, as the Terriers take on Boston College. Expect a loud crowd, a red-out atmosphere (with fans wearing Terrier colors), and plenty of energy from puck drop to the final horn.

BU Center for New Music: Jessie Montgomery Showcase Concert Featuring BU Faculty and Student Performers

Spend your Friday night at the CFA Concert Hall for a showcase concert centered on the music of composer Jessie Montgomery, performed by BU faculty and student musicians. The program is part of Montgomery's visit to campus and highlights her contemporary works, which draw from classical traditions while weaving in modern influences. It's an easy way to catch a high-level performance on Comm Ave.

BU Winter Weeks of Welcome: Magic Night
