The Center for Access and Engagement in partnership with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will host Brittany Stephenson, vice chairperson of the Luzerne County Council, on Monday, Feb. 16, in the PUB multipurpose room 2 at 4 p.m.

Stephenson, who is a CU-Bloomsburg alumna (21, 23), plays a key leadership role in providing direction and support to the residents of Luzerne County. As the first Black American to serve on Luzerne County Council, Stephenson recognizes and embraces the historic nature of her role on county council and strives to serve as a role model to all residents of Luzerne County.

Stephenson also serves as an academic specialist with the Educational Opportunities Centers of Pennsylvania (EOC). In her role with EOC, Stephenson is focused on assisting youth in reaching their academic and personal goals. A key component of Stephenson's work is developing and implementing educational programming for incarcerated youth.

During her visit, she will discuss the role that today's youth can play in advocating for positive change. She will also discuss her journey as a student leader at CU and how that journey prepared her for present leadership roles.
