Celebrating Colorado’s 150th Birthday: Governor Polis Announces Survey to Hear From Coloradans on Proposed Pedestrian Walkway at State Capitol and Sesquicentennial Activities

Coloradans across the state can share opinions on the proposed walkway at State Capitol and more until the survey closes at midnight on Monday, July 21st

DENVER - To celebrate Colorado's 150th birthday next year in 2026, today, Governor Polis announced a new survey to capture Coloradans' thoughts about the best way to celebrate the occasion. This survey allows Coloradans to make their voices heard and share thoughts and opinions on how to celebrate Colorado's Sesquicentennial.

"Colorado's Sesquicentennial celebration is for every Coloradan, and I believe it is important that each of us has a say in how the state celebrates our historic milestone, or if we celebrate it at all. This historic space is, and always will be, for everyone, and so I think it's important that Coloradans have a say in this effort to celebrate. Coloradans who want to make their voices heard should submit a survey response before midnight Monday, July 21st," said Governor Polis.

In November, after many public meetings and months of planning, Governor Polis announced a vision for the Colorado 150 Pedestrian Walkway, an opportunity for Coloradans who visit the Capitol to enjoy a space that celebrates Colorado's history through art and storytelling, while improving safety and increasing accessibility between the park and the Capitol.

The survey provides an opportunity for Coloradans to share opinions on whether the state should proceed with the proposed walkway as planned or at a smaller scale or not at all, if the state focuses on making improvements to the park, if there are opportunities in other parts of the state, or if Coloradans want to celebrate the state's Sesquicentennial at all.
