Rep. Matt Reeves’ ‘Georgia Insurance Affordability and Claims Integrity Act’ Becomes Law

ATLANTA - State Representative Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) today applauds Governor Brian Kemp for signing House Bill 1344, the "Georgia Insurance Affordability and Claims Integrity Act," into law. Sponsored by Rep. Reeves during the 2026 legislative session, the legislation was a priority for House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) and drafted based on the findings of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates, which Rep. Reeves chaired during the 2025 interim.

"I am grateful that Governor Kemp signed HB 1344, the strongest insurance affordability legislation in America," said Rep. Reeves. "11 insurance companies have recently cut their rates in Georgia, and two new companies have entered the state- and HB 1344 will keep up that progress to save Georgians money on car, home and business insurance."

HB 1344 increases approximately 40 fines on insurance companies when laws or policy provisions are violated during the claims process, strengthens enforcement of uninsured motorist laws and cracks down on insurance fraud. The bill also improves storm claim processing and enhances the Fortified Homes program to help Georgians better protect their homes from storm damage. Additionally, HB 1344 requires local governments to report how premium tax revenue is used to lower citizens' insurance premiums, limits premium tax refund requests to three years, restricts how insurance companies use aerial imaging and ensures that policyholders have at least two years to file property and casualty claims. The legislation also includes provisions related to short-term rental insurance policies.
