(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - State Representative Brian Lorenz (R-Powell) testified yesterday for House Bill 261 before the House Ways and Means Committee. The piece of legislation aims to provide property tax relief to Ohio senior citizens.
House Bill 261 represents a commonsense step toward restoring accountability and protecting the people who built our communities, especially our seniors. For too long, complicated systems and one-size-fits-all policies have overlooked the unique challenges facing older Ohioans living on fixed incomes.
This legislation helps ensure that the government works for them, not against them.
"The importance of House Bill 261 lies in its focus on fairness, transparency, and fiscal responsibility," said Lorenz. "Seniors deserve the peace of mind that comes from knowing they won't be unfairly burdened by policies that ignore their limited ability to absorb rising costs. This bill reinforces the principle that individuals-not bureaucracies-should come first".
At its core, this bill is about keeping promises. Ohio's seniors have spent decades working, paying taxes, and contributing to their communities. House Bill 261 respects that commitment by prioritizing stability, protecting their financial security, and promoting policies that allow them to age with dignity.
This bill awaits further consideration by the House Ways and Means Committee.
