Loyalty Above All Else: Pam Bondi Passed Donald Trump's Loyalty Test To Weaponize The Justice Department

Bondi: "The prosecutors will be prosecuted... the investigators will be investigated."

Donald Trump values one thing above all else in an Attorney General: loyalty. He said so himself at the swearing-in of his first Attorney General, and his actions prove his words. Trump fired Jeff Sessions when he refused to oversee the Mueller investigation, turning to staunch loyalist Bill Barr as his second Attorney General. Barr did his best to protect Trump and his allies, but that wasn't enough. When Barrrefused multiple times to put his thumb on the scale of justice, Trump saw him as disloyal and pushed him out.

This time around, it's no secret. The Trump transition team is reportedly already conducting loyalty tests about allegiance to Donald Trump, candidates they supported in recent elections, the January 6thinsurrection, and 2020 election denialism. If they gave the "wrong" answer, they were not selected.

Donald Trump's Attorney General Loyalty Test hasn't changed, and he's found someone who can pass it: Pam Bondi. She was a personal attorney for Trump. She was involved in the effort to overturn the 2020 election. She called for the prosecution of career prosecutors and FBI agents who were simply doing their jobs. She has a troubling history of unwavering loyalty - like cheering on a "lock her up" chant at the RNC - that directly conflicts with the rule of law and the tradition of an independent DOJ.

Bondi: "We are not going anywhere until they declare we won Pennsylvania… we are thrilled to have won Pennsylvania."

U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:

"Pam Bondi appears to have the ultimate qualification to be Attorney General in Donald Trump's view, and it has nothing to do with the American people and everything to do with himself-loyalty. Pam Bondi has passed Donald Trump's Attorney General Loyalty Test with flying colors, whether by peddling election lies or saying she will prosecute perceived enemies, and her unflinching loyalty to the President-elect raises serious concerns about the future of an independent Justice Department."
