Voice of Vietnam launches fundraiser to support storm victims

Voice of Vietnam launched a major fundraising campaign on October 4, 2025 to help communities devastated by Typhoon Bualoi. The initiative, held at VOV's headquarters in Hanoi, came in response to a call from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee. Typhoon Bualoi, the tenth storm to strike the East Sea this year, brought days of heavy rain and flooding that caused tragic loss of life and destroyed homes and farms across central and northern mountainous regions of Vietnam.

VOV President Do Tien Sy explained that the broadcaster has been working around the clock to keep people informed and safe. The network has provided continuous coverage of the storm, sharing government emergency instructions, weather updates, and stories of local officials and rescue workers helping affected communities rebuild. Embracing the Vietnamese saying "the intact leaf covers the torn one"-which speaks to the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors-VOV organized the donation drive to directly support families struggling to recover from the disaster. President Sy also announced that VOV staff will continue their relief efforts through various activities in the coming weeks.

The situation remains urgent as another storm, Typhoon Matmo, approaches Vietnam's coast. Early reports indicate that Typhoon Bualoi has already claimed 65 lives, with many still missing, and injured 164 people. The storm destroyed nearly 350 homes, damaged over 172,000 others, and flooded more than 100,000 hectares of farmland. With mountainous areas already saturated from previous rains and at high risk for landslides, VOV leaders stressed the critical importance of keeping the public informed as the next storm arrives. The economic damage from Typhoon Bualoi alone is estimated at approximately US$15.86 trillion.
