Governor Kelly issues state of disaster emergency for storms that impacted the state June 16-17

Governor Laura Kelly issued a state of disaster emergency proclamation today, June 18, at 2:35 p.m. for severe storms and flooding that impacted parts of the state, but primarily central Kansas, on June 16-17. This declaration allows resources to be used to provide state assistance.

"Heavy rains and flooding continue to impact parts of Kansas," Governor Laura Kelly said. "Always be aware of the weather forecast for your area and the possibility of flooding. Be prepared to leave the area, if necessary.

The Kansas Division of Emergency Management has partially activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Topeka to monitor flood activity, assist counties with their potential needs and coordinate state resources.
