Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site Celebrates 250 Years of America and the Founding of Tuskegee University

Date:
June 29, 2026

TUSKEGEE, Ala. - On the 250th anniversary of the United States, Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site will host an event on July 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to celebrate American independence and the anniversary of the founding of Tuskegee University.

The celebration will take place at The Oaks, the home of Booker T. Washington. Activities include historic speeches from the porch of The Oaks and historic-site trivia with prizes.

Visitors can commemorate their visit with a button from the button-making station and can create their own tie-dye shirt with a provided t-shirt. In a nod to George Washington Carver, visitors can plant seeds in starter cups supplied by the park. Visitors can also try their luck in a corn hole game.
