Following instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and in keeping with the highest priority of Mexico's foreign policy-protecting Mexican nationals abroad-the Government of Mexico reports that in the early hours of Thursday, a C-130 Hercules aircraft arrived from Matecaña Airport in the city of Pereira, Colombia, carrying 36 Mexican nationals who had been left in vulnerable circumstances following the August 10 earthquake.
The repatriated Mexican nationals were accompanied by personnel from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense and are safe and in good health. The group arrived at 12:30 a.m. at the Santa Lucía Military Air Base in the State of Mexico aboard one of the Mexican Air Force's strategic transport aircraft, which had departed the previous morning carrying humanitarian aid to Colombia.
Secretary of Foreign Affairs Roberto Velasco thanked the Colombian Foreign Ministry for the assistance and arrangements it provided to ensure the successful return of the Mexican nationals.
The Embassy of Mexico in Colombia continues to provide various forms of consular assistance and is in regular contact with the Mexican nationals who remain in Colombia, in order to facilitate their departure from the country through coordination with various commercial airlines, as well as to help relocate those who had been staying in hotels that sustained structural damage.
The Government of Mexico reiterates its firm commitment to protecting Mexican nationals abroad. The emergency telephone number of the Embassy of Mexico in Colombia is available to anyone requiring consular assistance or guidance: +57 313 878 6028.
