2024 Water Quality Report Released

The City of DeKalb Water Division is pleased to announce the release of the 2024 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also known as the Water Quality Report. This annual report outlines the quality of drinking water delivered to residents from January 1 through December 31, 2024, and demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering a safe and dependable water supply.

The CCR provides a comprehensive summary of where DeKalb's water comes from, how it is treated, and what contaminants-if any-were detected during routine testing. In 2024, over 12,000 water analyses were performed, testing for more than 100 different types of potential contaminants, including lead, copper, microbial, inorganic, and radiological substances. We're proud to report that the City of DeKalb's water met or surpassed all State and Federal water quality standards.

Key Highlights from the 2024 Report:

  • Lead and Copper Testing: The 90th percentile results for lead (7.5 ppb) and copper (0.59 ppm) were below EPA action levels, with no system-wide corrective actions required.
  • Disinfection Byproducts and Inorganic Compounds: All values remained well within compliance limits.
  • Source Water Protection: DeKalb's water supply-drawn from six deep and three shallow wells-continues to be rated as not susceptible to contamination by the Illinois EPA.
  • Fluoride Program Recognition: 2024 marked the 25th consecutive year the City has been recognized by the Illinois Department of Public Health for maintaining optimal fluoride levels.

The report also includes FAQs on home water use, utility billing, and common questions regarding bottled water and softener needs.
