CONGRESSMAN GRAY STATEMENT OF TREATMENT OF SENATOR PADILLA DURING HOMELAND SECURITY BRIEFING

WASHINGTON, DC- Congressman Adam Gray (D-Merced) issued the following statement after California Senator Alex Padilla was thrown to the ground and handcuffed after attempting to ask Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem a question during a news conference in Los Angeles.

"The way Senator Padilla was treated yesterday is absolutely unacceptable. California's senior Senator was performing his duty to conduct executive branch oversight and speak up for the millions of Californians who are dismayed and fearful following recent inflammatory actions this administration has taken. Congress is a co-equal branch of government and its Members must be allowed to carry out the responsibilities their constituents elect them to fulfill."
