SUNDAY MORNING UPDATE: L.A. City Provides Status Update on Progress Toward Fires

LOS ANGELES - The City continues to aggressively respond to the Palisades Fire. This morning, City and County leaders provided updates on efforts to quell this emergency, announcing that good progress has been made on the Palisades Fire and the Hurst Fire overnight. Leaders encouraged Angelenos to stay prepared and monitor alerts as weather forecasts predict Santa Ana winds to increase this evening through early next week. To ensure the safety of emergency response workers and the public, no unauthorized entry is allowed to areas under evacuation order. All LAPD escorts for residents into evacuation zones have been discontinued.

As of 10 AM, the following progress has been made on the fires affecting our region:

  • Palisades Fire 11% Contained - The fire remains an active emergency, having spread more than 23,707 acres with 11% containment. There still remains a potential to threaten life and property and evacuation orders remain in effect. Thousands of firefighters are on scene deploying resources including heavy duty trucks and equipment as well as air support. The City continues to provide shelter and resources to impacted families. The evacuation zone map is available here. Firefighters and first responders are the only personnel in the evacuation area.

  • Hurst Fire 89% Contained - There is significant progress in containing the Hurst Fire thanks to our firefighters who continue to marshal resources to extinguish this wildfire which has burned 799 acres. All evacuation orders in the vicinity of this fire have been lifted.

  • Kenneth Fire 100% Contained - Firefighters worked around the clock to bring this fire to 100% containment at 1052 acres. The location continues to be monitored for flare ups.

  • Archer Fire 100% contained - Thanks to the heroic efforts of LAFD firefighters, the Archer Fire in Granada Hills is fully contained at 19 acres. The location continues to be monitored for flare ups.

  • Eaton Fire 27% Contained - The Eaton fire affecting the communities of Altadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, and La Cañada-Flintridge remains an active emergency, having spread more than 14,117 Acres. There still remains a potential to threaten life and property. For latest information regarding the Eaton Fire visit lacounty.gov/emergency/

  • FEMA Assistance Available - FEMA staff are on the ground providing in-person support helping Angelenos apply for disaster relief at the Westwood Recreation Center and the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center. Assistance is available at www.fema.gov.

  • Business Disaster Loans Available - The Small Business Administration is now offering home disaster loans, business disaster loans, and economic injury disaster loans, which can be applied for at lending.sba.gov.

Water Safety Notice:

Do Not Drink orders are in effectfor neighborhoods near the Palisades fire North of San Vicente Blvd. Affected Zip Codes include 90272 and 90402. To provide additional support, LADWP will be distributing bottled water to affected customers at two distribution locations:

Wildfire Smoke Advisory:

Smoke from the fires has affected Los Angeles County, creating unhealthy air. Residents are advised to wear KN-95 protective masks outside, limit time outdoors, avoid rigorous physical activity, keep windows and doors closed, run air purifiers, minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense and more. The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and Council District 1 have set up the Alpine Recreation Center as an Air Quality Relief Center to keep residents safe and healthy during this event.

The City announced donation drop-off locations to support families, residents and workers impacted by the L.A. wildfires. Donation items are requested based on reported community needs. The City continues to aggressively respond to the Palisades Fire and Hurst Fire while moving forward to rebuild and recover. Do not bring donations to fire stations.
