Northwest Missouri State University's Student Senate will sponsor its annual fall blood drive, in conjunction with the University's Homecoming week, Oct. 20-21.

Northwest students, employees and community members are invited to donate blood between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. both days in the Tower View Dining Room on the third floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union.

This year, the Student Senate is collaborating with the American Red Cross. Interested donors should schedule a 15-minute appointment online at https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=NWMSU

Participants will receive a $10 e-gift card and an entry into a $5,000 giveaway as well as food items and other giveaways on behalf of the Student Senate.

"We encourage the Maryville community to join us in making a meaningful difference through our annual blood drive," said Bri Lynch, a sophomore political science major from Dallas Center, Iowa, who serves on Student Senate as a co-chair of civic service. "By participating, you'll not only be supporting patients in need but also becoming part of Northwest's Homecoming week - a time when we come together to celebrate our University, give back and show the true spirit of our community."

Blood from volunteer donors assists cancer patients recovering from the rigors of chemotherapy, vehicle crash victims needing blood for emergency surgeries and mothers needing blood as the result of traumatic birth deliveries. It is estimated that three lives are saved with every unit collected.

Northwest has sponsored blood drives for more than 45 years and has a reputation for its outstanding commitment to supporting blood donation in the region.
