Trump admits he doesn't consider Americans' financial situations "even a little bit"
Today, when asked to what extent Americans' financial situations are motivating him to make a deal with Iran, Donald Trump admitted: "Not even a little bit. … I don't think about Americans' financial situations, I don't think about anybody."
The average family is spending an additional $5,000 this year due to tariffs, spiking gas prices, higher grocery costs and health insurance premium increases. According to new data released today, inflation soared to 3.8% - the highest in nearly three years - and is now growing faster than wages, largely due to Trump's war with Iran, soaring prices on gas, shelter, and food. Meanwhile, U.S.-based employers cut more than 83,000 jobs in April - a 38% increase compared to March.
In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:
"Donald Trump just said the quiet part out loud: he doesn't care about Americans who are struggling to make ends meet in his economy. Trump has made the economy a living hell for working families, with prices for gas, groceries, and healthcare skyrocketing, jobs becoming harder to find, and families dipping further into their savings or going into debt just to get by. The financial pain Americans are feeling is a direct result of Trump's policies - yet he's leaving them high and dry while sticking them with the bill for his deadly and costly war with Iran, his $1 billion White House ballroom, and tax breaks for billionaires."
Americans are struggling to make ends meet in Trump's economy, and 55% of Americans say their financial situation is getting worse - the highest level in 25 years. Trump's disapproval rating on the economy just hit a whopping 70% in a new poll, the highest of either term and more than 20 points higher than his first term. For the first time since 2010, a recent Fox News poll showed that Americans prefer Democrats over Republicans on the economy.
Here's exactly how unbearable Trump's economy has become for Americans:
