What you need to know: The San Diego Clairemont Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office will temporarily close to the public starting at 5 p.m. today. Most customers can save a trip to the office and do their DMV business online at dmv.ca.gov.

Sacramento - The California DMV will temporarily close the San Diego Clairemont office at 4375 Derrick Drive starting at 5 p.m. today until further notice due to damage from a water leak. The office will undergo water remediation and customers will be redirected to nearby DMV offices.

The health and safety of team members and customers is the DMV's top priority. The department apologizes for any inconvenience the closure will cause.

Until the issue is resolved, customers can visit other DMV locations during regular business hours for in-office services:

  • San Diego (Normal St.): 3960 Normal St. (8 miles from the Clairemont office)
  • Chula Vista: 30 N. Glover Ave. (16 miles from the Clairemont office)
  • Poway: 13461 Community Road (17 miles from the Clairemont office)
  • El Cajon: 1450 Graves Ave. (18 miles from the Clairemont office)

Before Going to a DMV Office - Try Online First

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit, including simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in offices. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions, such as eligible driver's license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn about options to complete DMV tasks.

Go Paperless - To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver's license renewal notices, sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov to opt in.
