Trash belongs in the garbage, not on your lawn!

Help keep your property safe, clean and beautiful

Spring has many pluses - warmer weather, longer days and flowers in bloom. But with the snow now melted away, it also reveals litter that has accumulated under it throughout the winter.

Show your pride of ownership by keeping your property clean. Your neighbours will thank you!

Here are some tips to keep in mind when cleaning up your property this spring:

  • Wear sturdy gloves or use a pick-up stick.
  • Be cautious near the road, especially if your kids are joining in the fun.
  • Properly dispose of litter by using separate bags or containers for garbage and recycling. Not sure how to sort it? Check out our 'What Goes Where?' sorting tool.
  • Take extra precautions handling dangerous items, including syringes, broken glass and medical waste.
  • Avoid sick or dead wild birds or other wildlife, as they may be infected with diseases that can spread to humans. Report them to Vaughan Animal Services at 905-832-2281 or animal.services@vaughan.ca and staff will respond.

Keeping your property clear of litter, waste and debris isn't just the right thing to do - it's the law. Failure to do so may come with a notice to clean up your property and/or a monetary penalty for each offence. Failure to comply with a notice is a chargeable offence and may result in the City removing the waste and debris at your expense.

If you witness littering or illegal dumping, report it to Service Vaughan at 905-832-2281 or service@vaughan.ca.
