Updated Hydrogen Infrastructure Map shows adjustment of timeline for hydrogen projects’ commissioning

The updated Hydrogen Infrastructure Map is now available online and shows the evolving trends for the European hydrogen infrastructure across countries and sectors. While the number of projects planned remains steady, project promoters are adjusting the estimated starting dates, in some cases.

The mapped information is collected by using a bottom up approach and hydrogen project promoters were asked to submit new and updated project information by 17 October 2025. The projects represent infrastructure across the hydrogen value chain, including those projects for demand and production.

Key updates include:

• Updated representation of the German transmission network, based on the German Hydrogen Core Network as approved in October 2024 by the Federal Network Agency.
• Updated representation of the Spanish Hydrogen Backbone 2030 and 2040.
• Updated representation of the Austrian and German distribution network.
• Extended transmission network in the Baltic / Nordic regions.

Furthermore, for this map update, project promoters were requested to undertake a review of the mapped information, in particular for their projects included when the map was first launched in December 2022. On the basis of this review, the estimated starting dates of some projects were adjusted, to commence at a later date. In some cases, discontinued projects identified by the promoters have been removed from the map.

The map also includes the Projects of Common Interest (PCI) / Projects of Mutual Interest (PMI) status of the hydrogen projects, based on the 2^nd Union list under the revised Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) Regulation published by the European Commission on 1 December 2025.

The involved associations - ENTSOG, GIE, Eurogas, CEDEC, GEODE, GD4S - aim to facilitate the update of the Hydrogen Infrastructure Map once a year, to ensure that it is a 'living' map comprising the most up-to-date status of the hydrogen projects network.

It should be noted that the map was first developed to address the European Commission's request to visualise "all hydrogen infrastructure projects collected under different existing processes in a form of a map" in their conclusions at the 36^th European Gas Regulatory Forum in May 2022. The data and information collected are published for informative and indicative purposes only and does not reflect true-to-scale representation of the infrastructure. The mapped projects are based on the information provided by the project promoters.

The next update is planned for Q4 2026, which will include the submitted hydrogen projects as part of the TYNDP 2026 process.
