Hagåtña, Guam - The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration today announced the completion of the required public hearings for the rezoning of government property in Mangilao, which has been designated as the site of Guam's future medical campus. On Wednesday evening, the Mangilao Municipal Planning Council voted unanimously in favor of the zone change from agricultural to commercial use. While residents in attendance posed important questions, no opposition was expressed to the project.
"It's a win-win for the people of Mangilao, Chalan Pago, and Yoña," said Mangilao Municipal Councilman Art Mariano.
Rezoning is essential to allow utility agencies to begin construction of vital support infrastructure, including a power substation, wastewater pump station, two to three new water wells, a 2.5-million-gallon water holding tank, and a water filtration system. These improvements will directly benefit residents of Mangilao, Chalan Pago, and Yoña.
The rezoning measure now proceeds to the Guam Land Use Commission (GLUC) for final determination.
