New Traffic Safety Upgrades Near NC State University

A traffic safety project is underway at the intersection of Gorman Street, Jackson Street, and Wolf Village Way near NC State University. City crews and contractors are installing a concrete median, a traffic island, new accessible curb ramps, and high-visibility crosswalks.

Traffic entering from Jackson Street will now be limited to right turns only. Left turns and through traffic will not be allowed. This change comes after a history of crashes at the intersection. Many of these crashes involved drivers leaving Jackson Street who did not yield to oncoming traffic.

The project also includes new high-visibility crosswalks across all three streets. Crews installed these markings using thermoplastic material. They heated the material so it sticks to the road. Glass beads were added to help the markings reflect headlights back to drivers at night.

This project will help improve safety for both pedestrians and drivers at this busy intersection near NC State University. Work is expected to be completed this week.

Thank you to our city crews and contractors for their hard work making this project possible!
